Home – what it means to me.

For me, home is the place I live, somewhere I can escape the world and fully relax.

In my current home, it’s all about looking outward, both literally beyond the four walls and figuratively beyond ourselves; there’s now just the two of us and our dog living here. That doesn’t mean the inside is irrelevant or uncared for; quite the opposite. Many hours were spent choosing colour palates, furnishings and accessories to decorate the inside of our home. The initial attraction and still the focus, however, is the bushland behind the house.

Bush outlook has been on our wish list for many years and can be pretty tricky to get within budget in suburbia, so this house is all about that long sought after outlook. It’s not what most would class as a stunning view, but it is peaceful, calming and has an ever changing soundscape – the sounds of wind blowing through the trees: from a barely audible sigh to an almost deafening roar, a variety of birdsong, some musical (parrots, magpies, wattle birds and wagtails), others grating (the ever present crows) and the hum and buzz of the myriad insects. It is, undoubtedly, the best feature of this house, our current home.

What do you love about your home?

  1. I like that my home is mine… That it has a little garden and trees that grow a new inch every year- and that I’m graced by the presence of Sparrows at my bird feeder each morning, and have a room for Tea that’s just for me ❤
