I’ve watched this movie so many times I have memorised the plot and much of the dialogue. You’d think this lack of surprise would diminish the appeal, but quite the opposite. Viewed more times than any other movie, I still love it. The familiarity makes it a true ‘comfort movie’; much like comfort food but without the calories.
My favourite Christmas movie is:
I love this movie but explaining exactly why is difficult. I just do. It makes me feel good. I laugh, I cry, I feel warm and fuzzy all over. Add champagne and I’m anyone’s. (Not really, but you get the idea.)
Inspired by watching loved ones reuniting at an airport, the movie’s storyline follows the intertwined lives of a group of Londoners as they experience the ups and downs of love in a variety of forms over the Christmas season. The all-star cast bring the complex and intricately woven multiple stort threads to life. I find myself falling in love with the characters all over again every single time I watch and look forward to watching Love Actually again this year.
I do love this quote from PM David, played by Hugh Grant in the movie:
May you be surrounded by love this Christmas season.
